I’ve sat around shooting the breeze with Sam a few times and he is a pretty nice guy. If he was coming off as an ass it was probably a combination of a bad mood and general disgruntled feelings from the many tourists taking photographs of the artists’ work but not buying it. I of course can’t speak for him, though, but that’s my guess. I can see where you’re coming from, but he probably didn’t see it as you exposing his artwork.

first off I loved your post. I do (believe it or not) look to your opinion about all things NOLA. I watched every epi of Treme. I loved it. I loved that they took the time to introduce our beloved musicians, culture and our ACCENTS… they got that mostly right. I loved that they used a lot of locals.. actors and non-actors alike. of course some of it was fluff and I was okay with that. Seeing all kinds of places that I frequent was great. Although after Treme I doubt those places are gonna be secrets any longer. I am looking forward to season 2 to see what’s gonna happen ! I am hoping that they can somehow work some crunktasticness in there !!!

I live right next to the Fallstaff building, and I can’t seem to figure out a good conclusion of why there are 4 or 5 statues of men in dressed in a bunny suits. It freeks me out a little but, it looks like there so real which makes it so interesting. New Orleans has a lot of history.

I think you’re looking at it from a narrow view. I wasn’t taking pictures of his work to hang on my wall in lieu buying his work. As a journalist by trade (anonymous blogger by hobby) my goal is to truthfully document what is going on in my city. If I can give a little extra exposure and promotion to those working here through the blog of the, “Hey, great artist, check him out” kind of thing, I will.

Let’s be clear: had he asked that I not take a photo, I would have respected his request. He didn’t. He wanted to be paid for it, after I took the photo. I don’t make money off of my blog. I don’t ask people to pay me for the publicity and exposure they may get if I write about them and show pictures of their work. He hung his work in THE most public place in the city. It’s going to get photographed. Rather than thank people for helping expose his talent, he chose to be an ass. I don’t know whether anyone who saw this post clicked on his link and bought something from him. If they did, great, but I’m not expecting any commission.

Speaking as an aritst, it always feels a little like stealing when people try photographing my work. That’s why I have a sign that says “No photos of art, please” You should have respected his wishes.

while looking for a recipe using Elderflower liquer, I came across the Hotel Montleone’s –naturally, this would be the ONE – We Love N.O. and we were at your hotel- the last time, when the super dome re-opened after horrible Katrina, and your saintly Saints played – it was my birthday – Sept. 25th. and as usual, we had a glorious stay at your wonderful hotel & enjoyed your city to the max!!!! Great post about the absinthe. There are a few of us here on the other end of the state who are also afficianados of the green fairy. Didn’t realize that so many brands were available! The event must have been a blast!

Just stumbled across your blog surfing for Louisiana-rlated blogs. Just wanted to say that I love the pic in your header. I’m a member of the Buccaneers of Lake Charles; we are the official pirates for the city’s Contraband Days festival, so obviously intt these piratey-type things.

My sister went to Delgado when we lived uptown. I used to joke about Bud’s but I don’t think she could ever force herself to go. Something about red meat and fried food…oh well.

My favorite memory of Bud’s Bud’s Broiler was my 1L year at Tulane. The student government held a live auction fundraiser. For interest, they had a lot of professors donate off beat things. One was lunch for two students with professor W at Bud’s Broiler. That raised a lot of money!

Hurray for Bud’s! I’m so glad they’ve reopened the flagship restaurant. There are two Bud’s Broilers out neart where I live in East Jesus. I don’t go to them often enough…maybe I’ll cruise by one of ‘em tonight. My mouth is watering for the #4–love that chili and cheese.
